Community Garden, Seed Bank & Farmers Market
East Recreation Center Community Garden
Looking for a space to garden, build community, and spend time outside this summer? Join the community gardens! The community gardens provide a space for community members to grow, eat, and share produce.
Gardening Season runs April 1 - October 1. Registration opens Feb 1, 2024. To reserve a plot, call the Friendship Center at 507-454-5212.
City policy mandates that all plots must be actively cultivated, or they will be reassigned. The garden plot should be actively used for growing vegetables, fruit, flowers, etc. Plots are to be regularly maintained throughout the growing season. Regular care includes planting, watering, harvesting, and removal of weeds. If plots are not cared for or used, they will be reassigned.
Volunteers care for community plots at the garden and general garden area upkeep. From watering, planting, weeding, harvesting and tending to the garden area.
Fuzzy, helpful, honey bees have been reintroduced to the garden. In previous years we have spent the summer watching them happily buzz about and do what they do best: pollinate the world around us. We are again excited to provide hive inspections and educational opportunities for folks who want to get an intimate look at honeybees and the process of raising them. Keep your eyes peeled to our Facebook page for more information.
