[ARCHIVED] Fireworks Information

Fireworks

According to the National Fire Protection Agency, on Independence Day in a typical year, far more U.S. fires are reported on the 4th of July then on any other day of the year. The Winona Fire Department wants to remind you that although bordering states can legally sell explosive and aerial fireworks, their use in Minnesota is illegal. The use of fireworks is governed by State Statute 624.20 which basically states “fireworks that explode or are aerial are not legal for public sale, possession, or use, except with a permit and by a certified operator.” If you have any questions as to what is legal or illegal, or to read the State Statute please visit the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s web site at www.fire.state.mn.us . Please keep fireworks away from children, read and follow the instructions on each device, only use in a safe location, and light only one device at a time. Extinguish and dispose of spent fireworks in a bucket of water. Do not try to relight a dud.

The Winona Fire Department wishes everyone a safe summer and holiday weekend!
