[ARCHIVED] WisDOT and MnDOT Hosting TCMC Passenger Rail Public Meeting

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) invite you to attend an in-person open house and presentation in La Crosse, Wis. or Winona, Minn.

Design plans for the project's improvement sites in La Crosse, La Crescent and Winona will be presented at the meetings in addition to the project's latest schedule and details on the work required at railroad sites to provide a second, daily round-trip passenger rail service with minimal delays.

Both meetings will present the same information. Before and after the presentation, exhibits and maps will be available. WisDOT and MnDOT staff and design engineers will be available to answer questions about the project. If you require an interpreter or translator, you may request one by calling the Telecommunications Relay System (Dial 711) at least three working days prior to the meetings.

TCMC Project Details:

  • The passenger rail service will be provided along the 410-mile TCMC corridor that is part of Amtrak's existing long-distance Empire Builder and Hiawatha routes between Milwaukee and Saint Paul.
  • TCMC will improve railroad track, at-grade crossings, and signal and communication infrastructure in La Crosse, Wis. and in Winona and La Crescent, Minn.      to enable passenger trains to bypass freight trains.
  • Final design plans will be completed in summer 2023, construction is scheduled from 2024 into 2025.

Unable to attend in-person?

Additional information about the TCMC project can be found on the WisDOT and MnDOT project webpages. Presentation materials will be posted to these webpages following the meeting.
